Most failures are caused by CORS restrictions on the server. The URL must allow cross-origin requests from browsers.
Only direct file links work. URLs that serve web pages (like YouTube or social media links) cannot be downloaded this way.
Images can be converted between PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Videos can be converted to GIF or have thumbnails extracted.
